January

Happy New Year!

We have been in Canada for 3 weeks now and are starting to get to know the place. Its been freakin' cold here (minus 25 C at times) although it looks like you have also been 'enjoying' the winter wonderland in the UK yourselves. It certainly seems to have caused havoc to the footy fixtures and its nice to see Reading are respecting Liverpools long history of FA cup heritage...

The Canadians are a polite, welcoming bunch with lots of time for people and a fairly laid back nature - just like Londoners really.

We arrived in Calgary on Jan 1st and spent a couple of days there checking out the city. We had fun scaring ourselves by going up the Calgary Tower for the amazing panoramic views and to walk around on their glass floor fifty storeys up.

We also hung out with some giant stuffed Canadian animals dressed up as Mounties for a while. When we'd recovered from all the excitement we headed out to the Rocky mountains.

We are staying in a shared house in Fernie, which has a great ski hill with loads of snow and has plenty of trails for back country skiiing and exploring. We have been representing the English by putting away plenty of beers and watching the local sports teams bash the hell out of each other on the ice hockey rink. Phil went curling last night for the first time and his team won so he's a convert. He does have some nice blisters on his hands from all that curling and sweeping - who knew curling could be so hardcore!

We've managed to get plenty of snowboarding in so far with numerous opportunities to practice our 360 back flips. We'll show you all the photos when one of us finally lands one.....don't hold your breath just yet. We are also lining up a road trip to check out some of the other ski resorts on the British Columbia 'Powder Highway' in February and are now taking our new 9-5 snowboarding life very seriously...

We hope everyone is doing ok and send all our love and hugs from across the Atlantic!

Susie and Phil xx
